Cédric Herrou (white, with beard), and a group of some of the refugees that he is temporarily hosting on his small farm close to the village of Breil sur Roya, The Roya Valley, France, 18 November 2016. Cédric farms olives and produces free range eggs, and for the last 18 months has made his farm a temporary safe haven for illegal immigrants. Scores of these refugees arrive in Breil sur Roya, hungry and tired, as they try to enter France via the mountain areas along the French-Italian border where there are fewer police checks than along the coastal train or road route. At Cedric’s farm, and homes of a small group of fellow local citizens, the refugees can rest, eat and be clothed (via donations of food and clothes) before continuing their travel.
