Un plan pour augmenter l’immigration juive française en Israël

In cooperation with the government in Paris, Israel plans to facilitate the migration of thousands of French Jews to settle in Israel, the newspaper Maariv revealed on Friday. The plan is being funded by the Israeli and French governments and is expected to be approved by Tel Aviv soon.

Based on official data, Maariv said that Israel is seeking to boost the number of Jewish immigrants to compensate for the increasing number of Israeli citizens who leave for the US, UK and Canada. If approved, as expected, implementation of the plan will start in the first four months of 2014.

The newspaper said that the Israeli government has set up a specialist team to study the reasons why most Jews in the world live outside Israel. The team found that affording residence, work and education opportunities might attract Jewish migrants to the Zionist state.

The Israeli government, it is reported, is hoping to take 42,000 Jews to the country. In 2014, it is envisaged that 6,000 Jews will be taken to Israel. This is expected to rise to 12,000 in 2015 and to 24,000 in the following year.
