An argentinian judge recently comdemned Juan Carlos Beica, argentinian socialist , to six months in prison for taking part in a solidarity event with the Palestinian people. His only crime, being an “anti-zionist”.
Beica’s organization, Convergencia de Izquierda, is launching an international campaign to appeal the sentence. This case could set a legal precedent that would negatively affect the work of the Free Palestine movement in Latin america–and beyond. Also, the Zionists have been touring the region,– visiting Argentina for instance–and signing new cooperation accords with some governments. Israel was one of the few countries that supported the right wing coup in Honduras, providing weapons and military personnel.
